What is a Blood Moon?
A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Sun, Earth, and Moon align, causing the Moon to pass into Earth's shadow.
- During totality, the Moon appears reddish or copper-colored, earning the nickname "Blood Moon."
NASA explains that this color change happens due to sunlight scattering in Earth’s atmosphere, similar to how sunrises and sunsets appear red.
